Soon after the birth of our first child, Mark and Jackie Dalton moved into the house next door. We considered ourselves very lucky to have another young couple who were also soon to have a baby as our neighbours. Before their baby arrived I had already passed on my 7 month’s worth of ‘Dad wisdom’ onto Mark, and I was sure that it was all he needed to know.
But after Maya was born, I soon found out that what I knew was immaterial compared to what Mark and Jackie were preparing for.
Cystic Fibrosis was not something that I knew much about before Maya came into this world. I now know it is a life threatening genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections, and gradually limits the individuals’ ability to breathe.
Seeing our little boy Hamish, and Maya play together makes you realise that every child deserves to play happily with their friends, flourish, and grow up to experience the world.
In March 2017, a group of friends and I are tackling one of Australia’s greatest and most challenging single day event rides.
Like my fellow riders I am aiming to raise $1000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Victoria, and hopefully raise more awareness for this debilitating disease.
Please give generously so we can hopefully one day find a cure.
